The economy grew by 4% in the second quarter after shrinking by -2.1% in the first quarter. This gives us a whopping 1.7-1.9% growth rate thru the first 6 months of 2014. However, you would think the economy was on fire according to the articles and headlines of the last few days.
" GDP SURGES.....Business Insider; US economy back on track.....Reuters; Fed boosts view of economy....WSJ; etc...."
Add to that the average growth rate of the economy since 2000 being 1.7% and you get.....try a Real Unemployment rate of over 15% not 6.1% and a no growth to slow growth economy that is leaving far too many Americans behind..... the 8-Ball.....the Middle Class becoming the lower class....and income disparity growing.
Some politicians will try to say look how good we are doing and our plans for the economy are bearing fruit....yeah-rotten, decaying fruit.
We have talked repeatedly about what the solutions to this economic malaise are. I wish I could tell you we are on the right track but we are not. Our policies on global trade are mostly a failure; our government is out of control with massive amounts of new, economy and job chocking regulations; our tax policies are non-competitive and driving our corporations offshore; our infrastructure is failing at a frightening rate ( witness the huge water main break in California wasting 20+millions of gallons of precious water in a severe drought state where they argue over a few gallons wasted on lawn watering); unfortunately I could go on and on.
We are still a great country, but we don't need to hide the truth behind political rhetoric and misleading information.
Continue to educate yourselves! Re-visit some of the earlier messages on this blog, in particular my presentation in New Orleans......Read the articles.....look at the "Like-minded" section. If you have questions, ask them.
You know what is going on in your communities, towns, and neighborhoods. How tough it is to find good paying jobs for family members, friends, graduates. We are 6 years since the collapse and 7 years from the start of this Great Recession and we are way too far behind where we should be and need to be.
It is up to you America to see through to the truth and hold your elected officials accountable, particularly those in leadership positions. Time to put people in these roles who tell the truth not what they think you want to hear. There are no free lunches to cure what ails us, just hard work and accurate and realistic views of our problems and their solutions. If someone is promising to take care of you, and that does not include hard work and sacrifice...run from them not to them. They are friends in name only!
Let's do it together,
